Roster Rules

Team Roster Size

MASL teams may register a maximum of twenty-six (26) players under contract during the active regular season and playoffs. Team active player rosters must be at twenty (26) by end of business on November 20, 2025. Teams will be allowed to carry five (5) players on the injured reserve, five (5) players on the immigration pending list, three (3) players on the suspended list, and three (3) players on the mutually inactive list. 


Game Day Lineup

Teams may dress a maximum of sixteen (16) players. Game day minimum is twelve (12) eligible players. All teams are required to dress TWO goalkeepers for every game, no exceptions. In the event of an injury during a multi-game weekend; teams will be permitted to register and activate a goalkeeper to ensure they have two in the lineup.


Player Trade Deadline

Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 5:00pm ET. This is the final date to trade any player currently under a MASL contract. No player who has played in the 2025-26 season for any one team will be allowed to sign or be traded to another MASL team past this trade deadline for the conclusion of the 2025-26 playing season and playoffs.


Roster Freeze Deadline
Players who have not been registered with any MASL team during the current 2025-26 MASL season must be registered prior to 5:00pm ET onThursday, March 12, 2026. This will be your final twenty-six (26) player roster for the MASL playoffs. This deadline includes all final changes into your final roster including moves from teams inactive, suspended or immigration pending lists. No changes after this deadline, except for the Goalkeeper Injury Clause.


Player Loan Policy and Transfer Window 

MASL has the following rules for player loans:

  • Number of loans: Each club can loan up to five (5) players to other MASL clubs per season. Teams are able to receive no more than five (5) loan players per season.  
  • Age restrictions: Field players must be 28 years of age or younger, and goalkeepers must be 30 or younger, during the League Year. Any Loan proposals outside of this age restriction must be approved by the discretion of the Commissioner.
  • Transfer windows: Loans must be initiated during the Primary Loan Transfer Window of June 1, 2025, and Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 5:00pm ET for the 2025-26 season.
  • Recalls: Players loaned during the Primary Transfer Window cannot be recalled during the regular season and playoffs. The rights will be reverted back to the parent team immediately following the final regular season or playoff game of the season.  
  • Competition: Both teams will negotiate and agree during the loan negotiation whether or not the loaned player will be eligible to play in a game against the parent team while on loan. This must be in writing in the loan agreement.
  • MASL Clubs Loans to M2-M3 Teams: MASL Clubs can loan players to nonaffiliated MASL clubs, but the League must give its approval.
  • Loan Team's Responsibility: The team that receives the loan player will be responsible for all items according to the players existing contract including the travel to and from players’ home city, salary of loan player, any housing that has been negotiated and responsible for any injuries that occur during said loan unless agreed upon between the two clubs and / or player.
  • International players: If a loaned player is a foreign international, the proper work authorization paperwork must be approved by the MASL league office for the league to approve said loan and the player's eligibility.


Number of Games Played Cap
No MASL player shall be permitted to play in more than 24 regular season games in one season. If a player is transferred to a new team prior to the transfer deadline the maximum number of total games played is 24 games, during the regular season.

Goalkeeper Injury Clause
A team may sign a goalkeeper to keep a minimum two active goalkeepers on the team’s final roster pending season ending injury to a GK following the Roster Freeze Deadline.
