ST. LOUIS AMBUSH PLAY TWO AT HOME THIS WEEKEND
St. Charles, Missouri – The St. Louis Ambush host kick off a two-game home stand Friday night when the cross-state rival Kansas City Comets visit Axius Field at The Family Arena. Friday’s match kicks off at 7:35 p.m. CST. The second home game of the weekend is Sunday at 3:05 p.m. CST when the Chihuahua Savage visit the Family Arena for the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Friday’s duel is the third of six between the Ambush and Comets slated for the 2021-22 regular season. The Comets won the first two games in the season series on November 26 and 27. In fact, the Comets haven’t lost a game yet this season and come to town with a perfect 6-0 reecord. They lead the MASL in goals scored, goal differential and are second in average goals scored per game.
Chihuahua has only played two games thus far and are still seeking their first win. The Savage previously played one season (2019-20) in the MASL’s M2 division, posting a perfect 12-0 record during the COVID-shortened season. Their move to the MASL was announced in July.
The Ambush are coming off a split last weekend, defeating the Tacoma Stars on Friday, January 7, then getting beat by the Stars in the January 9 rematch. The Ambush are 3-5 on the season.
Ahead of their weekend home stand, the Ambush announced the signing of goalkeeper Eduardo “Pollo” Cortes for the remainder of the season. With starter Paulo Nascimento out for the season following ACL surgery and Rafael Dias out of action due to visa issues, the Ambush goalkeeper situation has been somewhat unsettled during their first eight games. Cortes previously played with the Ambush under a one-game contract during a road trip to Dallas, then did the same for the San Diego Sockers when regular keeper Boris Pardo was out due to COVID protocols. Cortes played well in both those games, allowing only two goals against Dallas (playing for the Ambush) and only three goals against Ontario (playing for San Diego).
Prior to this season, Cortes had one season of MASL experience. He appeared in 20 games with the Mesquite Outlaws during the 2019-20 season, compiling a 5.50 goals against average and .682 save percentage. Cortes has also played with the North Texas Soccer Club (USL League 1), was signed by FC Dallas in 2017 and had a stint with Saint Louis FC (USL) in 2016. Prior to turning pro, Cortes played collegiate soccer at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and club soccer with the FC Dallas Academy.
Following this weekend, the Ambush play three on the road, visiting the Harrisburg Heat on January 28, the Florida Tropics on January 30 and the Milwaukee Wave on February 6 before returning to The Family Arena to host The Savage on February 11.
Tickets for all remaining Ambush home games are available at the Family Arena box office and at ticketmaster.com. Fans can stay current on all Ambush news by visiting the team’s official website, stlambush.com and on social media outlets.
