SeaWolves Get Revenge Against Florida Tropics
LAKELAND, FL – The Orlando SeaWolves traveled to Lakeland for their second straight game against the Florida Tropics, but unlike their last trip two weeks ago, the Orlando SeaWolves redeemed themselves, winning 11-6 behind four goals from Gordy Gurson.
The game started off with a bang as midfielder Victor France, playing his first game since coming back from injury, opened the scoring for the SeaWolves. Just four minutes later, Gurson got his first of the game, setting the tone for the rest of the first half.
After conceding one mid-way through the quarter, back to back goals from Thiago Freitas and Lewis Neal propelled the lead up to 4-1 at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter got off to a slower start. Florida scored to make it a two-goal game, but Osvaldo Rojas and Neal scored excellent goals to hang six on the Tropics before the first half ended. Florida pulled one back before the halftime buzzer and both teams went into the locker room with the SeaWolves leading 6-3.
The second half began with the Tropics again cutting the lead to two, but minutes later Gordy Gurson notched his brace to put the team back up three heading into the final quarter.
Once again, the scoring opened with a Tropics goal, but again Orlando responded. First Luke Boden tucked one away off a rebound, then Gurson secured his hat trick to put his team up 9-5. Despite conceding once more, Orlando capitalized on the late push by the home team as Gurson scored one from midfield into an open goal, while Osvaldo Rojas did the same just a few seconds later.
Rojas’ goal would be the final nail in the coffin for Florida as the SeaWolves came away with the 11-6 win.
The SeaWolves will play their next game back at home as they host the Milwaukee Wave on Monday, January 21st. Kickoff for that game will be at 7:35 p.m EST
