COMETS-HEAT TRADE SENDS ZACH REGET TO KANSAS CITY

The Kansas City Comets have acquired MASL veteran Zach Reget in a trade with the Harrisburg Heat. In exchange, the Heat receive Mike Da-Silva, Lesia Thetsane, Richard Schmermund and cash considerations.

“The Harrisburg Heat fans are getting three hard-working players that will immediately contribute on the field,” Budzinski said “Mike, Lesia, and Rich will all continue to develop under the tutelage of Head Coach Pat Healey. We appreciate the professionalism displayed by the Heat organization through this process.”

After winning MASL Rookie of the Year with the St. Louis Ambush in 2019, Reget was with the Florida Tropics for the majority of the past four seasons. The Kenosha, Wisconsin native and U.S. Futsal National Team player was with Florida until last week when he was traded to Harrisburg.

“Zach has represented his country for the US National Futsal Team,” said Comets managing partner Brian Budzinski. “As one of the premier target forwards in this league, we look for Zach to come in and contribute immediately. Kansas City fans will love his work ethic and we can’t wait to see him at Cable Dahmer Arena Friday Night.”

Reget has 15 goals and four assists in 13 games this season, including two goals in two games in his time with the Heat last weekend. Throughout his career, Reget has scored more than 20 goals in a season three times, totaling 88 goals and 46 assists in 88 games.

With the U.S. Futsal National Team, Reget played at the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania after finishing second in the CONCACAF Futsal Championship before helping the U.S. win the 2022 Umag Cup in Croatia last August.

Before turning pro, Reget tallied 26 goals and 14 assists as a four-year starter at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. Reget’s decorated collegiate resume includes being named an NCCAA All-American in 2015 as well as earning All-Conference twice and All-Region honors three times.

The Comets also lose three players that each played an important role throughout their time with the Comets.

Da-Silva joins the Heat after three seasons as a Comet who made an impact both on the field and in the locker room.

Thetsane gives Harrisburg another talented young player with a bright future in his second MASL season after shining with the Comets.

“Lesia is one of the brightest up-and-coming 2-way players in our league. Tremendous pace and work ethic.  He is just scratching the surface of his talent level.”

Schmermund joined the Comets in a trade with the St. Louis last season, helping to bring some stability to the Comets' defense through his veteran presence.

“Rich is a true professional. From the moment he came to KC last year, he has went to work and help solidify our back line as one of the best defensive lines in the MASL.”
